Participants brought in their own private collection of natural objects ranging from flowers to shells, feathers and bones. The class was guided through a series of "warm-up" exercises focusing on drawing techniques, hand lettering, color application and page layout.
In
the center of the room a table filled with nature books, flowers, shells,
insects and bird nests offered students all the reference they could possibly
imagine.
Using the techniques they learned, students created the first page of
their own personal Nature Journal. With an emphasis on "personal
style", students were encouraged to explore their own unique way of
expression. No "cookie cutter" images here!
Personalities blossomed
as we witnessed the power of personal observation unfold onto the pages. It
truly opened our eyes to the beauty of nature that we at times seem to take for
granted, reminding us to
stop and take
time to smell the roses.
