Vintage Glass Bottles Repurposed as Works of Art

Whenever we come across an empty glass bottle or a broken piece of jewelry, old or new – it is difficult for us to throw it away. There are endless ways to renew, embellish and display them.

Twice during the past two months ShaDeeLa had the privilege of teaching “Bottled Curiosities” Workshops at The Queen’s Ink in Savage Mill, Maryland. Some of the techniques that were taught included, how to search for antique bottles, the application of embellishments and our signature antiquing secrets.

Amazing creativity and passion were expressed in each of the artists completed bottles. We were enlightened by the amount of originality that surfaced in these workshops.

Join us for our upcoming “Bottled Curiosities” Workshops at The Serenity Shoppe in Snow Hill, Maryland on August 24th and at The Queen’s Ink in Savage Mill, Maryland in October (dates to be announced).

Tiny Treasures...

Saturday's Altered Shadow Box Workshop proved to be an interesting peek into people's lives as objects and the stories behind them were shared and observed.

Students brought in their tiny treasures, along with donations for the “share bowl,” to be thoughtfully placed within the many little niches of their box. Layering, distressing, design and depth of field were just a few of the techniques demonstrated.

It was fascinating to see and hear the stories develop as each Shadow Box came to life. As always, in true ShaDeeLa style, we laughed, had fun and realized that it's the "small" things that count and everyone has their story to tell.

After all, "One man's trash is another man's treasure"......

What a marvelous group of “Blooming Artists” we had at this past
Saturday’s A Time to Bloom Workshop!

With a child-like approach each person created a whimsical and colorful painting while exploring layering and mixed-media techniques. It was uplifting to see all of the bright colors and uniqueness of each creation. We all had a wonderful time laughing and learning together!

Join us for one next month for our Altered Shadow Box Workshop.

We hope to see you and your artsy friends soon!

Mixed Media Techniques Fit for a Queen

Saturday's Mixed Media Painting Discovery Workshop hosted by The Queen's Ink in Savage Mill, Maryland, proved to be yet another fabulous journey into self-expression and TRUST! Sharon set the tone initially by having everyone take a few mediative moments to let go of all their hassles and worries. She asked everyone to create the mindset that this class would be about trusting their intuition. Students were put to the test immediately as they quickly and decisively selected their paint palette consisting of three colors. It was apparent from the start that this group of women were willing to put their fears and self-doubt (about painting) aside and let their inner wisdom shine through. As each one of the 12 steps was revealed, the paintings began to take on a life of their own reflecting personal affirmations and colorful expression. Although this class was designed for artists with little or no painting experience, it was surely a testament that we all have the creative force within us that is just waiting to be released. And release it - they did! Everyone left with a "ready to hang" canvas while knowing confidently in their hearts that we are all "Queen of the Arts".

Winter weather ...

A little snow and ice couldn't freeze the creativity at the Ocean City Art League.

Deb worked her magic teaching students techniques that made
their canvases come alive with layers of color and personal messages.

The end result? One-of-a-kind pieces of art that will serve as inspiration and a sweet reminder of a fun day!

And the winner is...

Congratulations Joy,
winner of the ShaDeeLa "Embrace Your Art" Basket and envy of all!
Have fun creating.

For keeps

Saturday's workshop focused on making personal boxes for all those special treasures.

Beads made by a young child... a mother's costume jewelry... special verses...

These special tokens, combined with painting, decoupage and embossing turned a simple kraft box into a beautiful box with heartfelt memories...inside and out.

Messages.....

There is nothing better than having a daily reminder of life's important messages to keep you grounded and centered in this crazy world. That is exactly what student's walked away with after completing the Message In a Bottle workshop held at Queen's Ink. Deb provided instructions to transform a blank canvas into a beautiful piece of art work. Students used painting techniques to layer color and create depth, as well as decoupage techniques to add special messages and wisdom cards. At the end of day, everyone had a beautiful piece of artwork that showcased their creative talent and personal insight.
